Changing Careers

Statistics say that today’s worker will change their career about 5 times. The reasons vary: you may be unemployed or want a change of pace from an office or factory, you may not be satisfied with your current employment, or life may have just thrown you a curveball. Regardless of your reasons, it’s a big step and proper research can help make the transition successful.

Start as soon as possible. Talk to anyone and everyone who knows about crane and/or heavy equipment operation. Ask them to list the key traits for success and career expectations. Make sure you’re truly interested before you invest your time and money. Tests can also determine if you have an aptitude for heavy equipment and crane operation.

Construction is, in some ways, an old fashioned industry. Potential employer will want to meet you in person, so you can find out from employers what they’re looking for. If you can demonstrate a proven work ethic, a willingness to work independently for long hours, an ability to adapt to in many situations, and a readiness to settle down into a new career, you will be given an opportunity. OETIO training will enhance your ability to make the most of it.
