Are you a crane or heavy equipment operator in your home country and looking to transfer your career to Ontario, Canada? It is important to get as much information as possible before you make the move.

English is the primary working language on most jobsites in Ontario, so you must be able to read, write, and speak the language well. To see if your other skills are transferable to the construction industry in Canada, please visit the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities website.

Crane operator is a compulsory trade in Ontario: you must have a licence to operate in the province. In order to receive a Certificate of Qualification, you must either complete an apprenticeship (2 to 5 years) or supply proof of equivalent work experience and pass a written examination. Heavy Equipment operator is a voluntary trade, so no license is required. However, many employers will require that you show proof of training. Properly research training providers prior to taking any training to ensure the training will be recognized by the employers.
