Mobile Crane Operator
Branch 1 and 2 Apprenticeship
(339A and 339C)

This course provides the fundamentals of safety, equipment characteristics, and operational practices that apply to mobile cranes. There is ample hands-on practice to develop the basic skills of mobile crane operation and maintenance. 

The Branch 2 (339C; 8 ton - up to and including 15 ton) apprenticeship requires only common core.

The Branch 1 (339A; 8 ton - up to unlimited tonnage) apprenticeship requires common core and an additional 3 levels in-school advanced training..

LEVEL 1 Common Core
Duration: 240 hours over 30 days
Prerequisite: Ontario Grade 12 or equivalent
Format: One week of theory (40 hours) is completed through a distance learning program prior to the in-school training.  The remaining five weeks of the course is classroom, laboratory, and simulation activities, followed by practical exercises.
Evaluation: Theory examinations and practical evaluations
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
   
LEVEL 2  
Duration: 80 hours over 10 days
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 and approx. 2,000 hours of on-the-job experience.
Format: 2 days (16 hours) of classroom, laboratory, simulation activites followed by 8 days (64 hours) of practical exercises.
Evaluation: Practical evaluations
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
   
LEVEL 3  
Duration: 80 hours over 10 days
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 and Level 2 and approx. 4,000 hours of on-the-job experience.
Format: 2 days (16 hours) of classroom, laboratory, simulation activities followed by 8 days (64 hours) of practical exercises.
Evaluation: Practical evaluations
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
   
LEVEL 4  
Duration: 80 hours over 10 days
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 and approx. 5,500 hours of on-the-job experience. 
Format: 1 week (40 hours) of classroom, laboratory, simulation activities followed by one week (40 hours) of practical exercises.
Evaluation: Theory examiniations and practical evaluations
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
