Tower Crane Operator
Branch 3 Apprenticeship (339B)

This course provides the fundamentals of safety, equipment characteristics, and operational practices that apply to tower cranes. Ample hands-on practice develops the basic skills of both hammerhead and luffing jib tower crane operation and maintenance.

The Branch 3 (339B) apprenticeship requires common core and an additional 2 levels of in-school advanced training.

Level 1 Common Core
Duration: 240 hours over 30 days
Prerequisite: Ontario Grade 12 or equivalent
Format:

One week of theory (40 hours) is completed through a home study program prior to the in-school training. The remaining 5 weeks of the course is classroom, laboratory, and simulation activities followed by practical exercises.

Evaluation: Theory examinations and practical evaluations
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
   
Level 2  
Duration: 80 hours over 10 days
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 and approx. 1,500 hours of on-the-job experience.
Format:

2 days (16 hours) of classroom, laboratory, simulation activities followed by 8 days (64 hours) of practical exercises.

Evaluation: Practical evaluations
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
   
Level 3  
Duration: 40 hours over 5 days
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 and Level 2 and approx. 2,500 hours on-the-job experience.
Format:

2.5 days (20 hours) classroom and laboratory followed by 2.5 days (20 hours) practical exercises.

Evaluation: Practical evaluations
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
