Changes to Crane Operator Apprenticeships

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is making changes to the regulations for Hoisting Engineers.

Effective April 1, 2008, the total hours required for Tower Crane apprenticeship will be reduced from 4,000 to 3,000 hours. Upon completion of 3,000 hours, apprentices will be eligible to write the Certificate of Qualification exam. Those who score 70% or more will be issued Certificates of Qualification and Apprenticeship.

Effective January 1, 2008, a new in-school curriculum will be introduced for Tower and Mobile Crane Operators. Level 01 now includes both Tower and Mobile Cranes, and there will be an increase of 120 hours for Tower Crane Operators.

The new hours for training will be as follows:

339B 240 hrs. 80 hrs. 40 hrs.   360 hrs.
339C 240 hrs.       240 hrs.
