This course provides the fundamentals of safety, equipment characteristics, and operational practices that apply to tower cranes. Ample hands-on practice develops the basic skills of both hammerhead and luffing jib tower crane operation and maintenance.
The Branch 3 (339B) apprenticeship requires common core and an additional 2 levels of in-school advanced training.
Note: Hoisting engineer apprentices start their in-school training with the Level 1.
Hoisting Engineer Apprentice - Common Core - Level 1
Duration: 240 hours over 30 days
Prerequisite: Ontario Grade 12 or equivalent
Format: 6 weeks of classroom, laboratory, simulation and practical exercises.
Evaluation: Theory examinations and practical evaluations.
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
Tower Crane Apprentice - Level 2
Duration: 80 hours over 10 days
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 and approximately 1,500 hours of on-the-job experience.
Format: 2 days (16 hours) of classroom, laboratory, simulation activities followed by 8 days (64 hours) of practical exercises.
Evaluation: Practical evaluations.
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
Tower Crane Apprentice - Level 3
Duration: 40 hours over 5 days
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 and Level 2 and approximately 2,500 hours on-the-job experience.
Format: 2.5 days (20 hours) classroom and laboratory followed by 2.5 days (20 hours) practical exercises..
Evaluation: Practical evaluations.
Accreditation: OETIO certificate
